Canva: Your New Marketing Best Friend (VIDEO)
I used to be overwhelmed with all the software and know-how I needed to run the visual content of my business. Enter Canva. I hardly open Photoshop anymore because of this app/website and I feel like my business has a much more defined brand now, even as I’m still exploring and figuring things out. With Canva I can create instagram videos, video presentations, blog post photos, business cards, stickers, logos, stories, ebook covers and on and on and on… You can design for free with limitations, you can have a free trial and/or you can pay a small fee per month to design (or, heck, just use their professional designs…

June Updates (VIDEO)
It’s been some time since I’ve made a video, and some SOME time since I’ve done so with any sort of consistency. But we’re back at it and have a lot planned. Not to say it’s all going to work out (in fact, I imagine most of it won’t!) but, what doesn’t work will provide insight. So here we go, on this adventure. Let’s do it!

Video Marketing MAGIC
So. I’m trying to sit down and have a normal, productive day of work. And it’s really failing because I can’t get Brandon Sanderson’s latest announcement out of my head. When I watched it, sent to me this morning, it was a #1 on trending. At this point, it’s been out for about exactly a day, and it has 855,671 views. If you’re a Sanderson fan and haven’t watched the video yet, do so and come back. Or don’t come back but do watch the video. I’m going to start spoiling it. If you’re not one of his fans, then the content of this video won’t be expressly relevant, but…

How-To: Tag Your Personal Friends on Your Business Facebook Page
Recently I uploaded a bunch of photos of some great people to my business facebook page. I wanted to tag the people in the photos and… found out I couldn’t. As my business page my friends did not show up. As my personal page, I couldn’t even tag. Thankfully a quick jaunt into “Settings” solved this one. For those of you (like me, ironically) who prefer blog how-tos, read on. As a starting point, this may let you know if you’re facing the same problem and if this solution is for you Tried Tagging with Personal Page Originally I tried tagging with my personal page but there wasn’t even the…

Happy Birthday Puppies!
Puppies during lockdown was a serendipitous experience. Outside of the endless crying (there were NINE puppies…) and even more bottomless pooping (NINE!), I’d say it ended too quickly. But wow, here we are a year later and my, what a difference a year can make. Let’s love on these not-so-babies, shall we?

Change Your Default Settings
When you first get your camera, it’s typically set to “Auto”. Your camera has default settings telling the camera how to take the picture. You get automatic decisions made about how bright the photo is, how saturated (full of color) it is, the range of colors, how much of the photo will be in focus etc etc. Now, don’t get me wrong, you can get GREAT results on auto. BUT. The magic happens when you know enough to change your settings. The magic happens when you know what each of your options mean and what you need to manipulate to cultivate the results you want. I may have achieved the…

2019 DragonCon Video Highlight Reel
If you had seen a few months back, I stated that at Dragoncon this year, I would be focused on improving my videography skills. The plan was to bull doze into many new areas in all of pre-production, production AND in post. Specifically I worked on: In-Camera transitions. (see 0:23 the TARDIS to Dcon sign, 0:49 the punch and Phazon Pixie Cosplay’s change in costume, 1:16 the dice to drone shot, and 2:22 the glasses to cosplay photo shoot) Crazy editing effects I’ve never tried before (0:00 with the strobe effect, and the flashing between scenes – also used throughout) This also includes the super fast pace this video took…

Can I See What Ads People are Running on Facebook? Yes, yes you can.
It feels like I’m spying every time I check out whether or not a company is running ads on Facebook. What are your thoughts? Somehow you found your way onto this blog, before you knew it was possible, did it feel like cheating to you? Because really, we can look at what our “competitor” is doing and copy her.(I put “competitor” in quotes because according to Wallace Wattles, we must move from the competitive to the creative, and I’d agree!) Swipe and Deploy IS a big strategy in the Marketing sphere. You see what is working for someone who has some similarity to you, and then you do your version…

Consistency > Perfection with Video
I think it’s a common desire, the elusive “Being Discovered”. The thought goes, “If I put forth this ONE. PERFECT. THING. someone will see it and notice me. I will be whisked away into stardom and fame befitting my awesomeness.” I’m not here to crush all your dreams. There is always that CHANCE. And, there is always a chance that you will score a winning lottery ticket. Or get found as a face fit for a magazine. Maybe you’ll go viral and get featured on “Ellen”. Or something! I’m not saying being discovered is bad or wrong or undesirable. Heck, many big names are big BECAUSE they were “discovered” and…
