Videos are powerful. I’ve seen campaigns raise $150,000, $500,000, even $4.36 million, all because the right story was told the right way. And that’s exactly why I’m so passionate about helping small businesses understand that video marketing isn’t just nice to have. It’s one of the strongest tools you can use to grow.
A few weeks ago, I had the chance to present Press Play on Growth: The What, Why and How of Video Marketing for Business in 2025 at the Adrian Armory.
Here's a Little Backstory...
I’ve been recording and documenting life since I was seven. My first camera? A $100 Kodak EasyShare, 1.1 megapixels, no sound.
(Yes, really. And yes… the phones we casually use today are 50–100x better. Wild.)
That childhood curiosity ended up becoming the business I launched full-time in 2017: Inspired Video Marketing. And since then, I’ve traveled, collaborated, filmed for nonprofits, schools, speakers, product sellers, small businesses, you name it.
But before anything else, I shared a few numbers that always make people sit up straighter:
Video marketing isn’t just what I do, it’s something I believe in with my whole heart. Because I’ve seen what it does for people.
What Video Marketing Actually Is
A picture may be worth a thousand words…but a video?
A video is worth a million.
Here’s why:
-
It makes complex ideas easy to understand.
-
It builds trust faster than text or photos ever will.
-
It’s prioritized by every major social platform.
-
It’s measurable, versatile, and can be repurposed endlessly.
-
And best of all? It sells for you while you live your life.
Somewhere, someone is watching your video and deciding to work with you. That’s leverage. That’s visibility. That’s connection at scale.
Video Has Changed And So Has the Strategy
In early YouTube days, quality didn’t matter. There were fewer creators, less noise, and you could get away with low-res single-camera videos.
But now?
We’re swimming in content. Not just competing... drowning.
It’s not enough to just post.
You need the right video, in the right place, at the right time, for the right audience, telling the right story.
That’s why strategy matters more than technical skill. Anyone can press record. But not everyone knows what to say or where it fits in the buyer journey.
The Video Funnel Every Business Needs
Every business whether you’ve built one on purpose or not, has a customer journey. People start not knowing you, then learn who you are, then trust you, then buy from you, then *hopefully* come back again and again.
Video supports every stage of that journey:
1. Awareness – “Who are you?”
Short, snackable content that grabs attention.
Reels, short tips, quick storytelling, relatable moments.
Your only job here? Make them stop scrolling.
2. Interest & Consideration – “Should I trust you?”
Longer, value-driven content.
How-tos, explainer videos, behind the scenes, educational content.
This is where expertise shines.
3. Decision – “Is this right for me?”
Testimonials, case studies, offer videos, personalized sales videos.
This is where persuasion meets proof.
4. Delight – “Wow… I’m coming back.”
Onboarding videos, thank-you videos, community highlights, fun behind-the-scenes moments.
Happy customers buy again and refer your next ones.
What About Perfection? Equipment? Editing?
One of the biggest things holding people back is the belief that they need fancy equipment. But you don’t.
Most phones today shoot in HD. Lighting and audio matter more than pixels. And if editing intimidates you? Start anyway.
Your first videos won’t be perfect, and that’s okay.
As I told the audience:
“If you get haters… congratulations. It means you made it.”
And if you don’t want to be on camera?
You still have options: stock footage, animation, voiceovers, hands-only demos. But I always challenge people to try. Your face is part of your brand. It builds trust faster than anything else.
Why This Matters for 2025 and Beyond
We’re entering a world where:
-
AI helps scale creativity.
-
Social platforms prioritize video.
-
Viewers crave authenticity.
-
Trust matters more than algorithms.
-
And attention spans only reward what’s real.
Video isn’t the future, it’s the right now. And those who lean in will win.
Here's a the full video on my Press Play on Growth presentation and you’ll definitely want to watch the whole thing. I go deeper into strategy, real examples, and practical steps you can take even if you’re brand-new to video.
