As you know, I’m a big fan of bows. They’re cute, they’re fun, and they make a great marketing visual hammer. *wink* Now, don’t let me stop you from going out and buying one, however, if you want something custom, you can always make your own. Today we’re going to tackle a big bow contender, no not the cheer - the Jojo Siwa bow.
Are you thinking: "Katie, you're a videographer, not a fashion designer."?
You would be right! But hey, who says you can’t have a little fun outside your designated area of expertise?
Plus, I figured it would be a great opportunity to show off our awesome Inspired branded ribbon.
Let’s get started!
What you’ll need:
- 3in Ribbon (ours is Inspired branded, but you can use any color or pattern you like)
- Sewing pins
- Needle and thread
- Alligator clip or barrette
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Smaller ribbon or sparkle tape
- Lighter (for burning the ribbon edges)
Step-by-step tutorial:
Step 1: Measure and Prepare Your Ribbon
First, we need to cut our ribbon to the right length. For this bow, we're aiming for about 90 centimeters or just under 35 and a half inches.
The ribbon will fray when cut so you’ll want to burn the edges slightly with a lighter.
Step 2: Create the Bow Shape
Place a pin at the eight-centimeter mark on your ribbon.
Fold the ribbon so the end aligns with the pin and secure it with another pin at the crease. Now, create a “support the cause” ribbon look by folding the ribbon in half again and pinning the corners together.
Step 3: Form the Infinity Loop
Continue folding the ribbon to create an infinity symbol shape.
Ensure the ribbon edges align and secure with pins. Remove the original pins and replace them to include all layers of the ribbon.
Step 4: Fold and Pin
Flip the bow over to create a V-shape and fold it in half.
Pin the creases to hold the shape.
Step 5: Create the Bow Center
Take one end of the bow and fold it into the V-shape, securing it with a pin.
Repeat on the other side, ensuring the pins align.
Step 6: Stitch the Bow
Using needle and thread, stitch a running stitch across the center of the bow, following the pin line. Remove the pins and gather the bow by pulling the thread.
Secure the thread by looping it around the bow several times and tying a knot.
Step 7: Trim and Finish
This is where the magic starts to happen! Trim the ends of the bow at your desired angle and burn the edges to prevent fraying.

And there you have it! A DIY Jojo Siwa-inspired bow with a branded twist. It might not be perfect (and that’s okay!), but it's definitely a fun project.
