What does “User-Generated Content” Mean?
According to our trust-worthy friend, Wikipedia, (take THAT teachers who told me I couldn’t site Wikipedia) “User-generated content (UGC)… is any form of content, such as images, videos, text and audio, that have been posted by users on online platforms such as social media and wikis.[“ How does this differ from “content” in general? The difference is between YOU as your brand photographing or filming, and one of your fans turning the camera on themselves and posting it. Of course it depends on who’s talking. If you posted your video to Youtube, according to Youtube, your video would be considered “User-Generated Content”. Same if a news-station were to use videos filmed by someone outside the agency…

How-To Link your Instagram Account to your Facebook Business Page
As a business owner I like to save time and consolidate where I can. I’m sure you can relate. Unless you have a giant marketing team, you have to do it all yourself, from making the content specific for each platform to tagging, describing and posting it. It’s overwhelming! Of course there are tools out there to help make the process easier, but it’s hard to not drown in all the apps or in the various learning curves. Plus, a lot of the high-functionality ones cost precious dough. Thankfully, there are little shortcuts. And many types of content that would be good on Instagram are also good on Facebook (think…

Should I hire a videographer for my event?
It’s a difficult decision to decide if it’s worth the cost to hire a videographer for your event. In the effort of making things simpler, I made a flow chart! (Ooh! For the record, if you’re wondering about a photographer for your event, this flowchart works the same- just exchange for the right lingo.) I’ve broken it down into three outcomes: You forgo having any media coverage You locate a volunteer or encourage attendee content You hire a professional videographer (in any range of skill) It would be inaccurate and quite leading to say “hiring a videographer is the answer in every scenario”. It just isn’t! However, there are a…

Video Marketing Inspiration: Create a space you love
“I don’t want to do a video, my space is a mess” I get this a lot. And I get it! I look back on old videos where I “Just did it” because I was being pressured (Hi Sandi. 😉 ) and while it was good to get the video out there, I cringe at my background. How messy and unprofessional! There have been times where I too, have declined to do a video because my background was just SO not compelling. Ugh! So how do we rectify our feelings about our surroundings and our feelings about our videos? I know someone (*cough* Sandi, I’m looking at you again!) would …

Do this one simple thing to increase engagement in your marketing
This is going to be SO obvious, so intuitive and so straightforward that some of you might want to just click away right now because you’re going to roll your eyes at me. (Okay, clarification, it’s not just “do a video”, so don’t get your panties in a twist, although that IS a solid suggestion…) One of the best ways to increase engagement in your marketing is to… feature other people. One of my BEST performing videos on Facebook was this one: Everyone who made their way into the video shared and tagged themselves. Any time you can interview someone (and let them know where the content is posted so…
