Sometimes you win while sleeping (usually after sacrificing lots of sleep)
I awoke to a flight attendant tapping my shoulder and urging me to pull down my tray table. Odd, don’t they usually wake you up so you can do the opposite? Groggily, I pulled down the tray in a dreamy, Charlie pre-golden ticket state to reveal a (not gold but) yellow sticker proclaiming, “Congrats! You found the lucky seat, you lucky so-and-so! You’re like a leprechaun born with a rabbit’s foot finding a heads-up penny underneath a horseshoe in a field of 4-leaf clovers. #spiritluckyseat” Still in a fog, I only nodded as I was handed a voucher for 5,000 free miles on Spirit and my seat number was announced…

Why and When would we use a Two Camera Shoot?
I just got asked this question “I’ve noticed a lot of people using two cameras including a shot of themselves on the side when they’re actually facing the other camera, why?” Great question! And it’s one I’ve taken for granted. My answer was, “I do it because it looks cool!” But that’s not entirely accurate. Why does it look cool? Because it accomplishes something. Things make us feel certain ways BECAUSE there are deeper meanings, usually subconscious ones as to why we like them and why they resonate. “That movie made me emotional!” – it sure did, but why? Because of the music, the timing, the way the shots were…

Video Marketing Inspiration: Create a space you love
“I don’t want to do a video, my space is a mess” I get this a lot. And I get it! I look back on old videos where I “Just did it” because I was being pressured (Hi Sandi. 😉 ) and while it was good to get the video out there, I cringe at my background. How messy and unprofessional! There have been times where I too, have declined to do a video because my background was just SO not compelling. Ugh! So how do we rectify our feelings about our surroundings and our feelings about our videos? I know someone (*cough* Sandi, I’m looking at you again!) would …

How-to add captions to Facebook videos THE EASY WAY (video)
In 2016, Digiday reported that 85% of Facebook video is watched without sound. Insert captions! You’ve watched plenty of videos with captions. Some of them you can choose to put on, some of them are a part of the video file itself, and some of them automatically appear like when you are scrolling your news feed on Facebook. This video will show you how to put the ones onto your facebook videos in the EASIEST MANNER. (Because as mentioned, there ARE other ways but they are more difficult and take longer). Hope this helps!

What does the “Inspired” stand for in “Inspired Video Marketing”?
“A moment’s insight is sometimes worth a life’s experience” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr The day I woke up and was to meet with my resident agent to sign my business LLC, I had no idea what my business would be called. For the past 2 or 3 years, I had been working part-time doing videos and video marketing, not really with a name, but calling it “Katie Curtis Video Marketing” for lack of anything else and because there was pressure on me to call what I did something. Aaaaand I kind of hated that name. Scratch that, I hardcore hated the name. It still makes me go “ick” to…

Do this one simple thing to increase engagement in your marketing
This is going to be SO obvious, so intuitive and so straightforward that some of you might want to just click away right now because you’re going to roll your eyes at me. (Okay, clarification, it’s not just “do a video”, so don’t get your panties in a twist, although that IS a solid suggestion…) One of the best ways to increase engagement in your marketing is to… feature other people. One of my BEST performing videos on Facebook was this one: Everyone who made their way into the video shared and tagged themselves. Any time you can interview someone (and let them know where the content is posted so…

What is my “Why”, and what is YOUR “Why”? (video)
Why do you do what you do? And the answer is not “for money”. At the core of it, WHY do you do… anything? Everything? What you’re doing? Here is my answer to that question. Thank you 2017, Hello 2018!
One year ago today I launched “Inspired Video Marketing” as my full time gig. (Okay FINE, hecklers, it wasn’t called “Inspired Video Marketing back then). I don’t remember what thoughts I had going into it. What I DO remember is that half of January 1, 2017 was spent on my bed, listening to an audiobook, wondering what the heck I had done in quitting my full time job to pursue video marketing. I remember being scared, I remember needing to go through the “What’s the worst that can happen?” exercise. I also remember being hopeful. We all dream of doing that one thing, of not being beholden to someone else,…

10 Legendary Lessons on Video Chronicling a Legendary Pool
This summer has been a whopper! You all know that after having worked Pool Construction for 3 years while doing Video Marketing part time, I made the leap to video full time January 1 of this year. Somehow this summer I ended up marrying the two and have been chronicling the making of a Legendary Escape these last 4 months. (For info on what a Legendary Escape is, click here) Each day, my cameras, tripods, mics and I would commute or carpool the 1 1/2 hours to this Legendary site and capture the magic unfolding while, yes, helping out as needed. The goal was and is to make…
